Main
Manteca, CA
Upon review of our file and your quarterly groundwater monitoring reports, it is evident that the
investigation at this site has never been completed. The lateral' and vertical extent of both soil and
groundwater contamination have not been confirmed. In addition, the existing monitoring wells at the site
appear to be located too close to each other to determine the groundwater gradient. Numerous reports state
that the gradient is considered flat because the difference in depth to groundwater in the three (3) wells is
within "instrument error over a distance of 75 feet."
On May 25, 1989, Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) wrote a letter
requesting a work plan for further investigative work, a well survey, and a site map showing product
pipeline layout and other underground utilities.
Submit a work plan to this office for further site investigation by June 1, 1991. Refer to "Appendix A -
Reports, Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations" for work plan format.
Since the tanks at this site have contained regular gasoline, diesel, and unleaded gasoline; soil and
groundwater samples are to be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel and gasoline, benzene,
toluene, ethyl benzene, xylene, total lead, and EDB. Use the analytical methods outlined in Table 2 of the
Tri-Regional Recommendations. Detection limits listed in the LUFT Manual-should be achieved.
Provide this office with a 48 hour notice prior to groundwater sampling,or other site activities.
If you have any questions, contact Margaret Lagorio, Senior REHS, at (209)468-3449.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Health Officer
aurie A.
