3rd Quarter SUES Report - Beacon #492, Manteca 14 October 1992
F
17 July 1992 Monitoring.
The system operated continuously since 13 July. Concentrations
continued to decline at the individual extraction points as well as the
system total vapor loading also declined. The vacuum remained j
relatively unchanged at 1.8" Hg. None of the valve positions were
rchanged on the extraction wells.
21 July 1992 Restart Visit:
The system again went down on Sunday 19 July and was restarted on 21
July. An automatic restart device was ordered for the system.
28 July 1992 Monitoring:
The SVES operated continuously since the 21 July restart. Vapor
concentrations again declined slightly at the extraction wells and the
hydrocarbon extraction rate remained below 3 lbs/day. No valve
positions were changed on this date and the SVES remained focused on l
only two wells, VW-4 and VW-5.
13 August 1992 Monitoring:
The system operated continuously since the previous monitoring with
only VW-4 and VW-5 open. Concentrations continued to decline. A
confirmational air bag sample from VW-4 was analyzed in the lab and
indicated a concentration of only 84 ppm. Ambient dilution was left in
the closed position.
25 August 1992 Monitoring:
The system operated continuously since 13 August. All observed
concentrations were below 100 ppm, Ambient dilution was found to be
partially open on this date. This unauthorized change was corrected
and the valve was returned to the closed position. The system
required no further adjustments on this date.
8 September 1992 Final Monitoring:
The system operated continuously since 25 August. The system influent
concentrations declined to less than 20 ppm. The SVES remained stable
extracting only from the two wells VW-4 and VW-5.
Rather than deactivating the equipment and having it sit idle on the
site for a week while awaiting relocation, the mobile unit was left
operation. This extended operation would ga,n maximum purge t,me on
the soils prior to drilling confirmation soil borings.
_ 4 _
r
