(Applied GeoSystems) conducted at the request of Ultramar Inc. at the
subject site (see the Site Vicinity Map, Plate P-1). The purpose of this sampling program
is to monitor the concentrations of hydrocarbons in ground water at the site. Work included
measuring depths to water, sampling ground water for subjective and laboratory analyses of
hydrocarbons, and evaluating the groundwater gradient beneath the site. TLc locations of
the monitoring wells are shown on the Generalized Site Plan, Plate P-2.
Present Ground-Water Sam2fing
On March 29, 1991. a geologist from Applied GeoSystems conducted the first quarter 1991
monitoring event at the subject site following methods summarized in an attachment to this
letter report. Water levels were measured in the monitoring wells (see Table 1). These
water levels were used to evaluate the ground-water gradient. We evaluated the ground-
water gradient on March 29, 1991,to be flat, which is consistent with the gradient evaluated
during the last sampling event.
We collected ground-water samples from each monitoring well and examined the samples
for floating product, sheen, and other subjective evidence of hydrocarbons. No subjective
evidence of hydrocarbons was observed :n any of the monitoring wells (see fable 2). The
geologist then collected groundwater samples from each monitoring well for laboratory
analyses. Water purged from the wells was placed in 55-gallon drums approved for this use
by the Department of Transportation and stored temporarily at the site pending removal y-. - -
Ultramar?ac.
