Lo Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation Report <br /> ACME SAW & INDUSTRIAL SUPPLY <br /> 1201 East Main Street, Stockton, California <br /> L <br /> 1.0. INTRODUCTION <br /> In accordance with the request of Mr. John Doucette of Acme Saw & Industrial Supply,Advanced <br /> GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE)has prepared this Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation Report <br /> (PIER) for 1201 East Main Street (the site), Stockton, California. The scope of work included the <br /> advancement of two soil probe borings and the collection and analysis of soil samples. The location <br /> ,y of the site and its surroundings are illustrated on Figure 1. Major features on the site and boring <br /> j locations are illustrated on Figure 2. <br /> 2.0. BACKGROUND <br /> �+ The site is located in a light industrial area of central Stockton, San Joaquin County, at an <br /> approximate elevation between 15 and 20 feet above mean sea level. The site is presently occupied <br /> by Acme Saw & Industrial Supply (Acme), a hardware sales and service company. Acme has <br /> Lo occupied the site since 1960;Acme purchased the site in 1964. According to Mr. John Doucette of <br /> Acme,the site was operated as a service station equipment company sometime prior to the 1950s. <br /> r 2.1. UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVAL <br /> Two 550-gallon USTs were located on the property from prior to the 1960s until 1993.According <br /> ` to Mr. Doucette,Acme Saw and Industrial had never operated the USTs. The former contents of the <br /> USTs are not known. <br /> Both USTs were removed from the site on 21 September 1993. Two soil samples were collected <br /> 60 from the floor of the excavation and one sample was collected from the excavated soil at the time <br /> of UST removal. Intense hydrocarbon odor in the UST excavation and in soil samples were noted <br /> by PHS-EHD personnel during the removal inspection. <br /> The soil samples were transmitted to a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified <br /> �, laboratory for analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), volatile <br /> aromatics(benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes: BTEX),total lead and ethylene di-bromide <br /> (EDB). BTEX compounds were detected in soil samples collected -beneath the USTs at <br /> concentrations as high as 102.4 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). <br /> Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. <br /> i.. <br />
