IWO 6 July 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0604
3.2. SOIL PROBE BORINGS
On 15 June 1999, two soil probe borings were advanced to depths of 30 feet bsg"at the site. The
advancement of soil probe borings were accomplished utilizing a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400
equipped with 1.125-inch diameter probe rods with an attached 2.15-inch diameter soil sampler,
using"direct push"technology. Probe borings B-1 and B-2 were advanced within the former UST
area. Probe boring locations are depicted on Figure 2.
LW
3.3. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
Discrete soil samples were collected at five-foot intervals beginning at approximately 5 feet bsg
` using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with pre-cleaned 1.125-inch by 6-inch brass
sleeves. Soil samples were preserved by covering both ends of the brass sleeves with Teflon sheets,
F capping, and sealing with tape. Each sample sleeve was labeled with the soil probe boring location,
depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
' The samples were logged on a chain-'of-custody form, stored in a chilled container and transported
to a California Department of Health Services(DHS)-certified laboratory for analysis in accordance
with:
• EPA Method 5030/8015m for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g)
+ and diesel (TPH-d),
E EPA Method 8020 for volatile aromatics(benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,and total xylenes;
BTEX).
3.4. LOGGING
L During boring activities, sample duplicates were monitored for the presence of organic vapor using
an organic vapor meter (OVM) and the readings were recorded on the boring logs. Soil sample
r duplicates were visually described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System
L (USCS). Boring logs are included in Appendix A.
k
r -
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
r
1.tir
