Preliminary Site Investigation Work Plan - July 1997
Former HERSHEL VAN_ CE AUTO REPAIR
4125 East Main Street, Stockton, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
In accordance with the request of Mr. Jim Rice, Advanced GeoEnvironmentai, Inca(AGE) has
prepared the enclosed Preliminary Site Investigation Work Plan for the collection of soil samples,
if applicable, beneath the former underground storage tank (UST) area at 4125 East Main Street,
Stockton, California.
The scope of work initially includes the advancement of one soil probing within the former LIST area
and collection of soil samples. The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1 - Location Map
(USGS 7.5 Minute Topographic Series: Stockton East Quadrangle, Photorevised 1987). A plan of
the site is illustrated on Figure 2 - Site Plan.
This Work Plan is prepared in accordance with San Joaquin County Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD) and Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board (CVRWQCB) guidelines for the investigation.of UST sites.
2.0. BACKGROUND
2.1. SITE LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
The site is located in a flat, commercial area of eastern Stockton, California, at an approximate
elevation of 15 feet above mean sea level. The site is further located on the northwest intersection
of East Main Street and Adelbert Street, and is currently occupied by Mike's Tire Service. The
property was formerly occupied by Hershel Vance Auto Repair.
2.2. UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVAL
It is our understanding that one 300-gallon gasoline and one 500-gallon gasoline USTs and
associated piping were removed from the site in May 1990. Two soil samples were collected from
beneath both USTs.
The samples were transported to a State-certified laboratory and analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline(TPH=g),volatile aromatics(benzene, toluene,.ethylbenzene and
xylenes: BTE&X),Ethylene dibromide(EDB)and organic lead. TPH-g was detected in soil samples
collected beneath the eastern tank (Tank #2) at 340 parts per million (ppm); ethylbenzene and
xylenes were detected in the same sample at concentrations of 3.7 and 39 ppm, respectively.
Advanced GeoEnviromnental, Inc.
