The
report also recommends discontinuing analysis for ethylene dibromide.
SJC/EHD agrees with these recommendations. Please proceed with submittal of a work
plan for installation of an interim pump and treat groundwater extraction system. The
work plan is due no later than October 17, 2003. Routine quarterly groundwater
monitoring and sampling must continue until directed otherwise by this agency.
Results of the reported groundwater monitoring and sampling event indicate that the
vertical and lateral extent of the contaminant plume has not been defined. Of particular
concern is the vertical extent of the onsite contamination, and the lateral extent offsite.
Deep discretely screened wells must be installed onsite. Please submit a work plan to
further investigate the extent of the groundwater contamination. The work plan is due no
later than October 24, 2002.
SJC/EHD noted that the field sheets submitted for the May 29, 2003 groundwater
monitoring and sampling event reported the pH of the purged water from wells MW-7A
and MW-1 was lower than would be expected, and that the temperatures documented
during the purges of several of the monitoring wells did not stabilize. Please have you
consultant address these issues and comment in the next quarterly groundwater
monitoring report if they continue to be unusual. In addition, depth to water
measurements noted on the May 29, 2003 hydrodata sheets seem to indicate that,
based on reported times, some of the measurements were taken after purging of some
of the wells had taken place. This will lead to skewed results in determination of
