(GHH) and has the following comments.
The work plan addendum was submitted in response to SJC/EHD correspondence
dated November 7, 2003. Key issues will be addressed numerically.
1. In the original work plan GHH stated that the proposed locations of additional down
gradient monitoring wells were based on calculated groundwater flow direction, but
the locations marked on the included map did not show them located thus. In the
addendum GHH states the locations were based on groundwater flow direction and
contaminant distribution, and proposed to move one set of wells onto the vacant
property at the southeast corner of Main Street and Oro Ave. SJC/EHD approves
this location, if an access agreement from the property owner can be obtained within
a reasonable amount of time. Another possible location would be to site the wells on
Annabelle Lane. Annabelle Lane appears to be a county road, with plenty of room
for accessibility of the necessary drilling equipment. Since submitting this addendum
GHH has contacted SJC/EHD and requested to move the well locations back to
those proposed in the original work plan. SJC/EHD does not approve of those
locations. There must be monitoring wells located to the southeast of your site.
2. In the addendum GHH refers to the "plume"from the former gasoline station located
on the southwest corner of Oro Ave. and Main Street. Please note that no data has
been submitted to SJC/EHD documenting a groundwater contaminant plume at that
site. When groundwater information from that site becomes available it can be
reviewed in relation to your site, but currently the only data submitted to SJC/EHD
reports soil contamination at the south end of their former tank pit, and all analyses
for methyl tertiary butyl ether in the soil were non-detect. The possibility that
groundwater contamination exists at the nearby site does not preclude you from fully
defining the groundwater plume originating from your site. As this neighboring site is
located cross-to down gradient from your site, the investigation of the edges of your
plume should extend to the south side of Main Street, which would be up gradient of
the neighboring site.
