Main Street
Stockton, CA 95215
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has received and reviewed
Work Plan for Soil Gas Investigation (Work Plan), dated 05 March 2015, prepared and
submitted by your consulting firm, Cardno ATC (Cardno), on your behalf for the above-
referenced site. By letter dated 1 December 2014, the EHD had directed the submittal of a
work plan to collect soil gas samples.
In the Work Plan, Cardno proposes to:
• Follow guidelines for soil gas sampling in Advisory — Active Soil Gas Investigations,
dated April 2012, published by the California Environmental Protection Agency (CA-
EPA) Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), Los Angeles Regional Water
Quality Control Board and San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board; and
Final Guidance for the Evaluation and Mitigation of Subsurface Vapor Intrusion to
Indoor Air, dated October 2011, published by CA-EPA DTSC;
• Notify the EHD of pending field work,at least forty-eight hours prior to performing the
field work;
• Advance four temporary soil gas probe borings using direct push drill technology to
approximately five feet below surface grade (bsg) at locations illustrated on Figure 2 of
the Work Plan;
• Construct each vapor probe using ane-quarter-inch Teflon tubing fitted with an
approximately one-inch long plastic screen tip at the base of the vapor probe placed at
approximately five feet bsg; then backfilling the annular space around the screen tip
and subsurface assembly with approximately four inches of 2/12 Monterey sand
followed by overlying hydrated granular bentonite above the sand layer in the annular
space to ground surface;
• Provide documentation from the environmental laboratory that individual sampling
manifolds and canisters are certified as clean;
