• •
F ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT WORKPLAN
JAMAR SERVICE, STOCKTON
APRIL 2002
4
The objective of the vapor test is to evaluate whether the soils beneath the site are amenable
to vapor extraction mitigation techniques and whether entrained petroleum hydrocarbons
can be removed from the subsurface with this method The test will also aid in the
evaluation of transport away from the site through the vadose zone An influent sample
from each well will be taken approximately 5-minutes after startup and again at the end of
the test or approximately 20-minutes Vapor samples will be collected in a 1-liter Tedlar®
bag. The vapor samples will be submitted to a California certified analytical laboratory for
chemical analyses of TPH G, BTEX and fuel oxygenates using Method TO-14
A portable vapor extraction unit will be used to extract and one, 200-pound granular
activated carbon(GAC)unit will be used to treat the air from the vapor wells All vapor
emissions generated during the test will be treated in accordance with the San Joaquin
Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District requirements Vapor samples obtained from
the wells will be monitored in the field for the presence of volatile organic compounds
(VOCs)using an organic vapor analyzer(OVA) The extraction wells will be monitored
for approximately 15-minutes prior to the collection of vapor samples for laboratory
analyses
REPORTING
Problem Assessment Report
GHH will prepare an PAR to document these phases of the work and summarize site
investigation and pilot testing data for the site The report will include GHH's
interpretation of information gathered during the investigation, detailed descriptions of the
methodologies used to collect and analyze the data, analytical results, geological controls
on hydrocarbon and MTBE mitigation, the total estimated mass of impacted soil and
groundwater, the estimated rate of transport_of impacted soil and groundwater away from
the site, copies of laboratory certificates with COC documentation, subcontractor reports,
discussion and evaluation of pilot testing results, and our conclusions and
recommendations.
The PAR will also document the potential for a commingled plume situation resulting from
several nearby sites which have or have had retail petroleum businesses and have a
potential to impact the subject site
12
