ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
QUARTER ENDING: December'31, 1997 PERMIT/SERVICES
SERVICE STATION NO.: 474
ADDRESS: 3440 East Main Avenue,.Stockton.CA
COUNTY: San Joaquin
ULTRAMAR CONTACT: Kenneth R. Earnest. TEL. NO: 209-583-3271
BACKGROUND:
In March, 1991, a limited soil investigation was conducted at the site as part of a divestment
project. Analytical results of selected soil samples collected from_borings drilled during the
investigation indicated the presence of-trace levels of gasoline hydrocarbons beneath the site.
Removal of the three existing UST's was performed in September 16, 1993. Analytical
results of soil.samples collected from the tank basin and the fuel islands indicated the presence
of trace levels of gasoline 'range hydrocarbons in.these areas. The tank basin was aver-
excavated'to a depth-of 30 feet in-an'effort to-remove the impacted soil. The highest benzene
in the samples collected from 30.feet was 0:12 ppm with no detection of TPHg.
Based on the analytical "results from the drilling and the UST :removal, San Joaquin Co.
Environmental Health required that Ultramar install three ground-water monitoring wells at
the site to assess ground-water conditions beneath the site. These yells were "installed in
December, 1993. Analytical.results of water samples collected from the wells indicate that
ground water beneath the.site is impacted with gasoline hydrocarbons. Quarterly monitoring
of the wells was initiated in the first quarter of 1994.
Two more up-gradient groundwater monitoring wells: (MW=4 and MW-5) were installed
during the third quarter 1996
SUMMARY OF THIS QUARTER'S ACTIVITIES:
Ground-water sampling of all the wells was conducted "by Doulos Environmental on
November 21, 1997.
BEACON
A Member of the Ultramar Group of Companies #1 Quality And Service
Wtramar
