Air- <br /> HORIZON ENVIRONMENTAL INC. <br /> Specialists in Site Assessment,Remedial Testing,Design and Operation <br /> REPORT <br /> ADDITIONAL SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION <br />' at <br />' Beacon Station No. 474 <br /> 3443 East Main Street <br />' Stockton, California <br />' for Ultramar Inc. <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> At the request of Ultramar Inc. (Ultramar), Horizon Environmental Inc. (Horizon) has <br /> conducted an additional subsurface investigation at Beacon Station No. 474 in Stockton, <br /> California (Figure 1). The purpose of this work was to install monitoring wells that provide <br /> screened intervals above, and overlapping with the current top of the groundwater with the <br /> three existing onsite monitoring wells; install an additional lateral definition monitoring <br /> well; and drill two soil borings adjacent to the dispenser islands to help investigate potential <br />' sources of the methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) impact to the groundwater previously <br /> detected in well MW-2 during the March 1997 quarterly groundwater monitoring (Figure 2). <br />' Subsequent to the detection of MTBE in well MW-2, on June 20, 1997, the San Joaquin <br /> County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (SJC PHSIEHD), , issued a <br />' Notification of Haza_Wous Waste Dischara, an Underground StorageUnauthorized <br /> Release (Leak)/Contamination Site Report, and a letter to Ultramar requiring additional <br /> subsurface investigation and the overlapping well screen intervals.(Appendix:A).— -. <br /> Results obtained during this investigation will be used to evaluate whether future subsurface <br /> investigation will be needed.
