L • & S • ENVIRONMENTAL
ASSESSMENT RESTORATION • & CLOSURE
March 22, 1998
Ron Rowe
San Joaquin County Public Health,
304 East Weber Ave
Stockton,CA 94621
Subject: Monitor Well Abandonment for the EBMUD Maintenance Yard Facility,Located at
1804 West Main Street,Stockton,CA.
Dear Ron:
L&S Environmental(LSE)proposes to abandon a total of nine wells at the above subject site. Gregg Drilling
-of Martinez will provide drilling services and LSE will provide oversight and closure documentation.
The wells will be abandoned by pressure grouting methods and will conform to San Joaquin County
Standards. Each well will be filled with neat cement using a tremie pipe until it flows from the surface. Once
the well column is full, grout will be applied to the well under pressure. A fitting will be securely attached to
each wellhead and connected to the Chemgrout pump. A continuous pressure of 30 to 45 psi will be
maintained on the wellhead for approximately five minutes to force grout into the filter pack and surrounding
formation.
Once the wells have been sealed the top three feet of casing will be exposed by removing the traffic box and
surrounding soil. The casing will cut off and the exposed end will be capped with concrete and mounded the
prevent ponding of water. The grout and cement will be allowed to setup and if no further settling occurs, the
remaining borehole will be`filled with soil cuttings.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Drilling is scheduled for March 27.
Respectfully,
L&S Environmentid
/ ott Parker,RG. PAYMENT
Principal Geologist .a -g
MAR 2 4 1998
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DiVISIC;j
P.O.
