Main Stockton, CA San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) was on site for the Thursday, July 2, 1992 "Quarterly Monitoring Sampling" (QM) event performed by Weston Inc. The yard surface had been blacktopped within the last year. During the process, monitoring well #6 (MW 6) was severely impacted by seepage of the asphaltic material into the well casing. During the well purging process, it was determined that a representative ground water sample could not be collected. Other well heads, and their respective Christy boxes, that suffered from asphaltic seepage were MW 5 and MW 1. Wells # 4,5, and 6 had standing water inside the Christy boxes. It will be necessary for East Bay Municipal Utility District to secure each well casing (MW 1-7) with watertight expandable caps to prevent the intrusion of surface runoff. It will also be necessary to replace the gaskets on the well lids to minimize surface water entry. To avoid confusion as to the numbering system of these wells, please affix the well number on the outside of Christy box lids. Arrangements must be made to redevelop MW 6 to remove the asphaltic material from inside the well casing prior to the next quarterly sampling. All repair work and/or replacement well caps should be performed as soon as possible to avoid complications to the site investigation. The drums located in the central portion of the equipment storage area must be labeled to identify the contents. Include within the next QM report how the District intends to dispose of purged water and soil from drilling activities. A Division of Sot Joaquin County Health tare Serv+ccs !
