1 V
stantec
Work Plan to Destroy Existing Monitoring and Remedial Wells
76 Station No.5886
April 18,2011
A summary of well construction details is presented in Table 1, while the locations of the
existing wells are shown on Figure 2.
SENSITIVE RECEPTORS
In November 2009, Stantec conducted a '/2-mile radius sensitive receptor survey. Information
was obtained from a review of Water Well Drillers Reports on file with the Central District branch
of the DWR in Sacramento, California. Stantec omitted a review of any wells classified as being
used for monitoring or remediation of environmentally-impacted sites, and any wells classified
as being used for cathodic protection. The well completion records identified two irrigation wells
located within '/z-mile of the site. The two wells were located approximately 1,300 feet west
(down-gradient) and 2,550 feet south-southeast (cross-gradient) of the site, respectively. An
additional seven wells that could possibly represent potential water supply or irrigation wells
were identified as possibly being located within '/2-mile of the site, but due to insufficient
information, a determination as to the precise location of these wells could not be made.
In December 2009, using the computerized satellite image mapping program Google Earth®,
Stantec searched for other sensitive receptors such as surface water bodies, schools, hospitals,
and daycare centers were conducted. According to Google Earth® the following sensitive
receptors were identified within ''/2-mile of the site:
o The Claudia Landeen kindergarten through eighth grade school was observed to be
located approximately 1,200 feet south of the site. Two private part-time colleges,
University of Phoenix and National University, were located approximately 700 feet
north-northeast and 2,400 feet west-northwest of the site, respectively.
o Little Learner's Preschool was located approximately 2,450 feet west-northwest of the
site.
o One nursing home, Somerford Place was reported to be present approximately
1,600 feet west-northwest of the site.
o The Calaveras River was observed to be located approximately 2,150 feet south-
southeast of the site.
o The Mokelumne Aqueduct, a buried water-supply pipeline was located approximately
950 feet south-southeast of the site.
No hospitals were determined to be located within %-mile of the site.
SCOPE OF WORK
The proposed scope of work includes destroying all existing site-related monitoring and
remedial wells. The proposed well destruction method for each well is summarized on Table 1.
The proposed scope of work is outlined below.
• Site Health and Safety Plan (HASP). As required by the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) Standard "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency
Response" guidelines (29 CFR 1910.120), and by the California OSHA (Cal-OSHA)
"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR Title 8,
Section 5192), Stantec will prepare a site-specific HASP prior to the commencement of
3
