Unocal Corporation <br /> December 5, 1996 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Soil Sample Analytical Results <br /> Selected soil samples collected between 10 and 25 feet bsg from each of the borings were submitted <br /> to Sequoia Analytical laboratory (a California-certified laboratory) for analysis of benzene, toluene, <br /> ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX), and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) using EPA Method <br /> 8020, total purgeable petroleum hydrocarbons (TPPH) as gasoline, and total extractable petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons (TEPH) as diesel using EPA Method 8015 Modified <br /> Laboratory analytical results reported that the samples analyzed from the borings of monitoring wells <br /> MW-1 through MW-3 were below the laboratory's limits of detection for BTEX, TPPH as gasoline, <br /> and TEPH as diesel Concentrations of MTBE above the laboratory's limits of detection ranged from <br /> 0 12 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) to 12 mg/kg Soil sample analytical results are summarized <br /> in Table 1 and a copy of the laboratory analytical report with chain of custody documentation is <br /> included in Enclosure D <br /> Soil samples representative of each soil lithology(sandy silt and clayey silt) identified at the site were <br /> submitted to PTS Laboratories Inc of Santa Fe Springs for analysis of moisture content, effective <br /> porosity, permeability, grain size, soil pH, and bulk and gram density Soil samples collected from <br /> boring B-1 at 6 0 and 110 feet bsg were submitted for analysis of total organic carbon, for <br /> background measurements Results of these analyses are presented in Enclosure E <br /> Stockpile Soil Samples <br /> Soil cuttings generated during the dnllimg of the four soil borings were stored on-site on plastic and <br /> covered with plastic at the end of the day Four soil samples were collected from the stockpiled soil <br /> and submitted to the laboratory for compositing and chemical analyses Results of the analyses were <br /> used for profiling the soil for disposal The analytical results are presented in Table 1 and a copy <br /> of the Iaboratory analytical report with chain of custody documentation is included in Enclosure D <br /> Following receipt of the analytical results, the soil was profiled for disposal at Forward Inc <br /> (Forward) of Stockton, California The soil was profiled under Forward's profile number 7041 A <br /> copy of the waste profile form is presented in Enclosure F On September 13, 1996, Forward <br /> approved the soil for disposal and Manley and Sons Trucking, Inc of Sacramento, transported <br /> approximately one yard of soil from the site to Forward's disposal facility <br /> Well Installation <br /> Three soil borings were completed as two-inch diameter monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-3) <br /> utilizing, schedule 40 PVC flush threaded casing material The screened interval m each well is <br /> constructed of 0 020-inch slotted casing extending from five to 25 feet bsg The annular space in <br /> each well was filled with Lonestar No 3 sand (filter-pack) to one foot above the top of the screened <br /> interval A one foot thick bentonite seal was placed over the filter-pack, with the remaining annulus <br /> being filled with neat cement Each monitoring well was completed at the surface with a flush grade <br /> traffic rated well box set in concrete Monitoring well construction details are presented in Enclosure <br /> G <br /> i <br />
