• ERI <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL RESOLUTIONS, INC. <br /> October 18, 1999 <br /> ERI 205504 R01 <br /> Mr Ed Ralston <br /> Tosco Marketing Company <br /> 1380 Lead Hill Road, Suite 120 <br /> Roseville, California 95661 <br /> Subject Air Sparge/Soil Vapor Extraction Test at Tosca 76 Service Station 5886, <br /> 2701 March Lane, Stockton, California <br /> Mr Ralston <br /> At the request of Tosco Marketing Company (Tosco), Environmental Resolutions, Inc (ERI) <br /> performed a three-day air sparge/soil vapor extraction (AS/SVE) test at the subject site ERI used a <br /> mobile AS/SVE trailer to extract soil vapors from the vadose zone and remove residual hydrocarbons <br /> and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) from the soil The AS/SVE trailer is equipped with a <br /> 1 5-horsepower Rotron blower, an oil-less air compressor, a moisture separator, four 200-pound vapor- <br /> phase carbon adsorbers connected in series for vapor abatement, and associated instruments for <br /> measuring flow, temperature, vacuum, and hydrocarbon concentrations ERI performed the work from <br /> May 10 through May 12, 1999 <br /> Existing on-site groundwater monitoring wells (MW2, MW3, and MW6) were used as part of the <br /> AS/SVE test The locations of the wells are shown on the Generalized Site Plan (Plate 1) <br /> On May 10, 1999 ERI mobilized to the site Prior to begumnig AS/SVE testing, background <br /> groundwater and soil vapor samples were collected from wells MW2 and MW3 AS/SVE testing was <br /> started using MW3 as the extraction well ERI rotated extraction wells based on photoionization <br /> detector (PID) readings <br /> Every half-hour ERI personnel recorded applied vacuum, applied sparge pressure, system flow, and <br /> influent concentrations at the extraction well, and recorded magnehelic readings at the observation <br /> wells The effluent vapor stream of the carbon abatement system was monitored every hour using a <br /> PID Field data recorded during SVE testing is presented iii Table 1 At the beginning and ending of <br /> each testing day, influent soil vapor samples were collected and submitted to Sequoia Analytical <br /> Laboratories, Inc for analysis of total purgeable petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPPHg)using <br /> EPA method 8015, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) using EPA method 8020, <br /> and MTBE using EPA method 8020 MTBE confirmatory analysis was performed on select soil vapor <br /> samples using EPA method 8260 Sample results are presented in Table 2 Laboratory analytical <br /> results and Chain of Custody records are included as Attachment B <br /> On May 10, 1999, ERT applied vacuum to MW3 for approximately one hour At which point, the SVE <br /> moisture separator was full of water The SVE was stopped for approximately 30 minutes while the <br /> moisture separator was emptied The air sparge pressure was decreased to lessen water collection <br /> 73 Digital Drive, Suite 100, Novato, Caldomia 94949-5791 415-382-9105 (FAX 415-382-1856) <br /> Lake Forest - Novato • Seattle <br />
