The depth of the seasonal high
groundwater used for the evaluation required by the Leaking
Underground Fuel Tank (LUFT) Manual for this area was at 40' to
45' bgs during Spring 1986 .
Detectable petroleum constituents found at or deeper than the
seasonal high groundwater require a groundwater investigation to
be performed in order to verify if the groundwater has been
impacted by the soil contamination. In order to better evaluate
the need for a full groundwater investigation, PHS-EHD will
require you to submit a hydrogeological chart that will provide
depth to water information relative to the year and station
operation.
Seasonal rainfall in this area has been record breaking and other
sites northeast of Stockton have experienced large recharge to
the shallow aquifers . PHS-EHD is concerned that since this CPT
investigation of December 1994, groundwater has risen and could
impact the low levels of petroleum contamination now documented
in this latest investigation.
Currently there are no groundwater investigations underway around
this site and upon evaluation of your chart (s) PHS-EHD may be
able to determine if the soil contamination was a result of the
rising contaminated groundwater (smearing) or from a source
closer to the surface (tank or piping release) not already in
contact with the groundwater.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
