It appears <br /> that a successful remediation of the ground water problem at your <br /> two San Joaquin County sites will eventually be completed. <br /> USA STOCKTON STATION <br /> At this meeting, Applied GeoSystems, consultant to USA Petroleum <br /> Corporation (USA) , presented parts of a proposed workplan for <br /> investigation of the extent of contamination at USA' s Stockton <br /> gas station. They intend to place three monitoring wells on-site <br /> in order to determine the direction of ground water flow and <br /> begin to describe the extent of ground water contamination. The <br /> _ possibility of placing a fourth well off-site to the west was <br /> brought up as a means of determining if underground tanks at <br /> another location contributed to the ground water contamination. <br /> Ms. Laurie Cotulla of the San Joaquin Local Health District <br /> agreed to check tank tests at the operating gas station across <br /> the street. Location of utilities near the site may help <br /> determine if contamination came from off-site. Utility trench <br /> backfill provides preferential flow pathways in the low <br /> permeability soils in this area. Andy Lush, of Applied <br /> Geosystems, said a completed workplan would be ready for USA's <br /> review in a week. Copies should be ready for review by the <br /> County and Regional Board by 8 June 1987. <br /> USA NODI STATION <br /> The contamination at this site is due solely to the practices at <br /> the USA gas station. No other apparent hydrocarbon source exists <br /> nearby. The full extent of contamination in soils and ground <br /> water must be determined before effective remediation can begin. <br /> In order to do this in a timely fashion, a soil sampling program <br /> should be scheduled along with the initial monitoring well <br /> installations. Ground water gradients at this site will be <br /> impacted by the variable pumping at the nearby irrigation and <br /> municipal supply wells. The scope of the ground water cleanup <br /> may increase with nearby pumping, so an expedient investigation <br /> is in order. The workplan for this site will be sent to <br />
