1 <br /> 30 WORKPLAN <br /> • Park has developed a scope of work to address the terms outlined in the above referenced letter <br /> from the PHS/EHD dated August 30, 1991 The proposed sco pe of work was summarized in <br /> Section 12, and selected assessment activities are further descnbed in the following sections <br /> 3 1 Utility Survey <br /> Prior to conducting any subsurface investigations Underground Service Alert will be notified to <br /> locate any utilities entenng the site This will serve to assess any potential dnlling obstructions <br /> beneath the subject site and enhance the assessment of man-made structures potentially acting <br /> as conduits for migration of contaminants <br /> 32 Soil Borinbs <br /> Three soil borings will be drilled to total depths of approximately 75 feet bgs or 20 feet below <br /> first groundwater for soil sampling and installation of groundwater monitonng wells One <br /> additional shallow soil bonng will be drilled to the depth of approximately 20 feet bgs for soil <br /> sampling and installation of a vapor extraction well The locations of the groundwater monitoring <br /> wells will be directly adjacent to previously dulled wells S-1, MW-1, and MW-2 These <br /> locations are shown on Figure 2 <br /> Soil bonngs will be advanced using a truck mounted dnil ng with hollow-stem continuous flight <br /> augers The augers will be steam cleaned prior to drilling each boring The lithology and other <br /> pertinent data will be recorded on a field boring log in accordance with the Unified Soil <br /> Classification System (USCS) <br /> Soil cuttings from the borings will be placed in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums until evaluated <br /> and verified with analytical results as to whether or not the soils are contaminated If the <br /> material is contaminated, a wntten plan will be submitted by Park outlining ialternatives <br /> Disposal will be the responsibility of the facility operator and must occur within 90 days of <br /> completion of drilling All soil bonngs will be backfilled by pouring a bentonite cement slurry <br /> through the auger <br /> 33 Soil Sampling <br /> Soil samples will be collected at 10-foot intervals from the ground surface to 50 feet From 50 <br /> feet to first occurrence of groundwater soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals It is not <br /> known where first groundwater will be encountered, but is estimated to be approximately 55 feet <br /> bgs <br /> Soil samples will be collected through the auger in three 6-inch long brass sleeves with 2- <br /> inch diameter in a split-spoon sampler The sampler is driven ahead of the auger by a 140 pound <br /> A 112511 WP 4 <br />
