s'" e
_y a tieFoods,
Nestle Foods Corp., 230 Industrial Avenue, Ripon, CA 95366 (209) 599-4161
April 06 , 1988
APR 2 3 iij;3
Mr. Clarence Smit
City Administrator
City of Ripon F.
311 W. First Street
Ripon, CA 95366
Dear Mr. Smit:
As you are aware from our recent discussions , we need to install,
and have access to three additional groundwater monitoring wells
on the city' s property in Ripon, CA. These wells are required by
the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB)
as`' part of an ongoing investigation to evaluate the extent of
organic chemical migration in the aquifers in the area.
Layne-Environmental Services, has been retained by Nestle Foods
to drill these monitoring wells, and they are being provided with
engineering and hydrogeological expertise by the consulting firm
of Camp Dresser and McKee. Both of these firms carry all appro-
priate insurance coverage for this type of work.
These monitoring wells will be located in Ripon, CA, in the alley
which runs between N. Walnut and N. Stockton Streets near the
entry into N. Stockton St.., approximately 120 .feet North of Main
Street. They will be drilled to depths of 240 feet, 120 feet,
and 40 feet respectively, and will be finished off flush to the
the ground. Each well will be locked to prevent unauthorized
access. Water samples collected from these wells will be
analyzed by EPA methods with specific emphasis on determination
of concentration of:
trichloroethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, trans-1, 2-dichlo-
roethylene, and vinyl chloride. In addition, water level
measurement will also be taken.
Copies of all well drilling/logging data and analytical results
that are submitted to the CVRWQCB will also be forwarded to you
upon request.
Nestle Foods agrees to indemnify the City of Ripon of any loss or
expense arising out of drilling, operating, and maintaining of
these monitoring wells on the City' s property, as contemplated by
this letter.
Please aknowledge your approval for Layne-Environmental/CDM to
install the above-referenced monitoring wells on' your property
by signing on the next page and returning a copy of this letter
