Relatively low
levels of volatile hydrocarbons were detected in the ground water
collected from MW--1 and MW-2. Benzene concentrations detected in
each of the wells are in excess of drinking water standards
recommended by the California Department of Health services.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Hydrocarbon contamination is present at the site in the soil and
ground water below and adjacent to the tank cavity. Floating
gasoline product is present in the area immediately below the
product storage tanks. We recommend that the floating product be
removed from the area as soon as possible, that ground water be
monitored on a quarterly basis so as to establish whether the
levels of hydrocarbons present in the ground water are decreasing
with time, and that additional assessment of the impact of the
contamination on ground-water resources be performed.
Further work should include construction of three or mors
additional up-gradient and down--gradient wells in order to locate
the limits of the contaminant plume. These wells would be
designed and installed with the approval and according to the
specifications of the appropriate regulatory agencies. Proposed
locations of the wells are depicted on Plate P-2. Actual
17
App/led G60SysPems
