1
4 August 1995
AGE-NC-95-0120
' 3.4. PROCEDURES
3 1 MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
'
On 31 March and 21 June 1995, a Sohnst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground
water in each well relative to the top of the casing The relative ground water elevations and hydraulic
' gradient were determined from these data(Table 1)
Each well was then purged using precleaned PVC bailers Approximately 8 gallons (minimum. of three
' well volumes) of water were removed from each well Temperature, pH and conductivity were
measured at one-or two-gallon intervals using an ICM model 52200 water analyzer All purged water
' was stored in 55 gallon drums on-site Ground water depths were re-measured prior to sampling to
assure a minimum of 80%recharge in each well Stabilization data and field logs for both monitoring
events are included in Appendix A GeoAudit performed monitoring procedures on 31 March 1995,
' AGE performed monitoring procedures on 21 June 1995
3 2 COLLEC'T'ION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
After purging, water samples were collected from each well using new disposable bailers
' Immediately upon retrieval, the samples were transferred into 40-m1 EPA vials preserved with
hydrochloric acid and 1-liter amber bottles The samples transported in a chilled container to Alpha
Analytical Laboratories(AAL) in Ulaah and analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d and BTE&X in accordance
' with EPA methods 5030, 8015m and 602, respectively
' 4.0. FINDINGS
4 1 RELATIVE GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
' he relative elevation of ground water in each well was calculated by subtracting the depth to water
T
from the surveyed relative casing elevation(Table 1) Ground water rose an-average of 2 22 feet
' between September 1994 and March 1995,an average rise of 0 99 feet was measured between March
and June 1995
' In March 1995,the gradient was calculated to be 0 0020 ft/ft (0 2 %) in a northeasterly direction (N
62° E, Figure 3)_ In June 1995, the gradient was calculated to be 0 0039 ft/ft (0 39 %) in a
' northeasterly direction (N 69° E, Figure 4) The March 1995 gradient is slightly more shallow than
previous calculations The ground water flow direction continues to shift towards the east
