Soil samples were collected using a metric soil sampler
' encasing two 2-inch by 3-inch brass sleeves The lead tube was covered with aluminum foil,
capped, placed in a chilled container, and transported to AAL Each sample was analyzed
for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline, diesel and motor oil) and volatile
' aromatics (BTE&X) The laboratory report and the chain-of-custody are presented in
Appendix B
4.0 FINDINGS
' 4.1 Relative Groundwater Elevation and Gradient
The relative elevation of groundwater in each well was calculated by subtracting the depth
to groundwater from the surveyed relative casing elevation (Table 1) During the December
1994 monitoring event the average depth to groundwater 72 65 feet below surface grade
' (bsg) The gradient was calculated to be 0 0033 ft/ft directed N 44° E (Figure 3) This is
consistent with data from the November 1993, May 1994 and September 1994 monitoring
events
4.2 Laboratory Evidence of Groundwater Contamination
' TPH as diesel was detected in water samples from MW-1 and MW-3 at concentrations of
420 ppb and 480 ppb, respectively TPH as gasoline was detected in MW-2 at 67 ppb
Benzene was detected in samples from MW-2 and MW-3 at concentrations of 13 ppb and
' 0 58 ppb, respectively No toluene, ethylbenzene or ,xylene was detected in any of the wells
The analytical results of the samples are included in Table 2 The laboratory report and
' chain-of-custody are included in Appendix B
4.3 Laboratory Evidence of Stockpile Soil Contamination
' TPH as diesel was detected in all three soil samples from the north stockpile at
concentrations up to 12 ppm TPH as motor oil was detected in each sample at
concentrations up to 74 ppm No TPH as gasoline or BTE&X were detected in the
' samples The laboratory report and chain-of-custody are included in Appendix B
1
peobpnl Auld Serves I.-
Nak On OR442 94M2 S
1
-`"iii t "i" t" 1r r i 1 a f•tt t ti "I„ " U - _ _ " - - - - - _-
