Additional wells can be
installed at a later date should groundwater quality information from either the site
wells or the additional monitoring wells proposed for the investigation of 2132
Mariposa Road indicate such action is warranted.
In order to continue to progress at this site, an accurate determination of the
distribution and concentrations of contaminants within the subsurface is needed. A
mass volume estimate must be determined from this information. If additional soil
borings are needed to do this, they should be installed now. The ultimate fate of the
mass of hydrocarbons remaining at the site must be evaluated from this information.
Also, at this time several remedial alternatives should be evaluated for feasibility,
overall effectiveness and cost. Any test wells needed for this evaluation should be
installed at this time. In addition, should the volume of contamination appear limited,
the option of natural attenuation should be considered along with the other active
alternatives. The cost of additional groundwater monitoring and the use of soil and
groundwater models to evaluate natural attenuation must be considered.
Once the above noted information is available, it must be evaluated and the most
efficient, cost effective cleanup approach must be selected for the site. This
information is to be submitted to PHS/EHD as a Corrective Action Plan pursuant to
the California Code of Regulations Title 23, Chapter 16, Article 11, Section 2725 et.
seq.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
