San Joaquin Street
Stockton, California 95201 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Subject: Addendum to Soil Boring Site Assessment Work Plan -
2088 Mariposa Road (Pacific Gas)
Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Turkatte:
In accordance with a request from Mr. Manuel Sanchez of Pacific Gas
and pursuant to our conversation on 5 February 1993 , Geological
Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit) has prepared this work plan
addendum for a soil boring site assessment of the area near the
former diesel dispenser (the north dispenser island) at the
referenced site. The original work plan was submitted on 28 January
1993 and addressed contamination only in the tank pit area. This
addendum addresses contamination associated with the dispenser
islands.
BACKGROUND
In May of 1990, five underground storage tanks (UST's) and
associated piping were removed from the site by Falcon Energy
Associates (FEA) . A total of eight soil samples were collected from
beneath the piping. The samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbon and volatile aromatics (ATE&X; see "Soil Sampling
Report - Underground Storage Tanks" dated 1 May 1990, prepared by
Water Work for FEA) . Hydrocarbon contamination was detected in all
eight samples at levels ranging from 0. 007 ppm (benzene, sample
"a") to 1,800 ppm (TPH as diesel, sample "g") .
PROPOSED ASSESSMENT and SAMPLING
According to the original soil sample results from beneath the
former piping, the area of greatest contamination appears to be in
the region of sample "g" . Though samples "a" - "f" and "h" all
contained detectable amounts of contamination, it is felt that
these areas can be remediated by over-excavation after the site
assessment is complete.
Therefore, GeoAudit proposes to install two additional borings in
the area of the north dispenser island, near sample "g" (see Site
Plan) . It is the intention of GeoAudit to install these additional
borings concurrent with the assessment of the tank pit area.
Drilling and sampling procedures identical to the original work
Environmental Services• Hydrogeology•Geotechnical Services
