6 November 1995
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0120
Soils will be described using the Unified Soil Classification System(USCS). Soil sample descriptions
and PID screening results would be summarized on boring logs prepared for the final report.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox. All hollow stem augers are steam-cleaned prior to
advancement in each borehole.
3.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and
diesel (TPH-g and'TPH-d) and volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes:
BTE&X)in accordance with EPA methods 8015, 8015M and 8020, respectively. Selected samples
will also be transmitted to .a microbiological laboratory for physicochemical analysis and
microbiological enumeration to determine existing bacteria populations.
3.4. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT TEST
Upon completion of drilling and sampling, a soil vapor extraction(SVE) pilot test will be performed
in order to determine remedial feasibility. An internal combustion(IC) driven engine will be used to
apply a vacuum on one of the SVE wells while the flow on the other well is measured. The duration
of the SVE pilot test will be approximately 8-hours. Soil vapor samples will be collected in Tedlar
bags and analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X at a laboratory. Results of the SVE pilot test will be
included in a CAP.
4.0. PROCEDURES
4.1. COLLECTION OF SOIL SAMPLES
For the collection of soil samples, the following procedures will be performed:
1. Notify the San Joaquin County Environmental Public Health Services -Environmental Health
Division(PHS/EHD) 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while securing proper
city/county soil boring permits.
