On that day two soil samples were collected with a backhoe
from under the drain line of a septic tank. The samples were analyzed by EPA method
8240 for volatile organic compounds. Results of the analysis were non-detect for all
compounds tested for. During previous work, on 12/14/98, the contents of the septic
tank had been sampled and tested by EPA method 8015m for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel and motor oil, and by EPA method 8010 for halogenated
solvents. Analytical results were positive for ethylbenzene and trichlorofluoromethane.
The report recommends that the septic tank and drain line be dug up and removed, and
that the contents be "disposed of in an appropriate manner at Forward Landfill'.
It is the recommendation of PHS/EHD that the contents of the septic tank be tested to
determine if it classifies as a hazardous waste, and that, pending analysis, it be disposed
of at an approved disposal facility.
If you have any questions call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS
Director, Environmental Health Services
,,
c GtMascot` —/' ` i
Lori Duncan, RENS Margare Lagorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
cc: Ray Kablanow, Geological Technics Inc.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
