1444 MARIPOSA ROAD
WKA No 2307 04
November 7, 1994
Page 2
The samples were immediately placed in an ice-chest with ice and submitted under chain-of-
custody to a California-certified laboratory for analysis of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH)
using Modified EPA test method 8015 and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Total Xylenes
(BTEX) using EPA test method 602
The submersible pump was cleaned with a solution of Liqui-nox and water prior to purging each
well, to minimize the potential for cross-contamination All water removed during sampling and
purging operations was placed in sealed and labeled 55-gallon drums and stored on site
No free product was observed in monitoring wells MW1, MW2, or MW3, however a petroleum
hydrocarbon odor was reported in MW2 Analysis of water sample MW I revealed a TPH as
gasoline concentration of 1,500 ug/f, a benzene concentration of 710 µgli, and a trace xylene
concentration, TPH as diesel, TPH as motor oil, toluene, and ethylbenzene were not detected
Analysis of water sample MW2 revealed TPH as gasoline and benzene concentrations of 6,400
ug/f and 980 µg/P, respectively, and trace concentrations of toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylenes, TPH as diesel and motor oil were not detected Analysis of water sample MW3
revealed no detectable concentrations of TPH or BTEX
Based on the above analytical results, wells MW 1 and MW2 revealed significantly increased
gasoline concentrations, however, well MW3 revealed no detectable concentrations Analysis of
ground water samples obtained from the three on-site monitoring wells are summarized in Table
2 Complete laboratory reports and chain-of-custody documentation are appended
The fourth quarter of ground water sampling is scheduled for January, 1995 A summary of our
findings will be transmitted upon completion of laboratory testing
In January, 1994 a soil vapor extraction system was installed onsite at the location of the former
excavation We recommend performing a soil vapor extraction pilot test to determine the most
effective and efficient remediation method We additionally recommend constructing
approximately three additional ground water monitoring wells and approximately two soil borings
INK
WALLACE KUHL
Recycled paper 6 ASSOCIATES INC
