31 March 2014
AGE Project No. 14-2997
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) and fuel additives
methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl
ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), ethylene
dibromide (EDB), and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA
Method 8260B.
• Selected Metals analysis.
• Field Screening for petroleum.
Laboratory reports for analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality
control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be presented
in a report with the findings and recommendations.
4.0. PROCEDURES
All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative working under the
supervision of a California Professional Geologist. Procedures for advancing soil probe
borings, collection and analysis of soil samples, equipment decontamination and
sample handling are presented below.
4.1. SOIL BORING ADVANCEMENT
Soil borings will be advanced using a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 direct-push or
equivalent AMS Powerprobe 9600 probing unit equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods.
The Geoprobe advances soil probe borings using a hydraulic hammer to drive soil
sampling tools to specified depths.
4.2. SOIL SAMPLING
Soil samples will be collected from each boring at discreet five-foot intervals beginning
at five feet bsg using a 1.45 inch Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with one
two-foot long acetate sleeve. Soil samples will be collected to a total depth of 20 feet
bsg or until field evidence signifies the absence of adsorbed petroleum hydrocarbon
impact. Upon sample retrieval, a portion of the acetate sleeve will be separated and the
sleeve ends will be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape.
Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in a chilled container under ice
and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a CDPH-certified laboratory.
Samples will be analyzed for the constituents listed in Section 3.3. Each sample sleeve
will be labeled with boring designation, depth, time, date and sampler's initials. Soils
encountered in the borings will be visually classified by AGE personnel in accordance
with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Additionally, soil samples will be
Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc.
