Mariposa Road
Stockton, CA 95205
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has received and reviewed
Preliminary Site Assessment Work Plan (WP1) and Interim remediation Work Plan (WP2), dated 31
March 2014 and 08 May 2014, respectively, both prepared by Advanced Geo Environmental, Inc
(AGE).
WP1 proposes 5 probe soil borings to 20 feet bsg around the former UST pit excavation to collect
soil samples to assess the total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPHd) impact to soil
around and under the pit excavation. Two borings will be advanced at 20 degrees from vertical to
extend under the former underground storage tanks (USTs) location. Selected soil samples will be
analyzed by a California-certified analytical laboratory for TPHd by EPA Method 8015M and for
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 8260B.
WP2 proposes interim excavation of an additional 100 to 125 cubic yards of impacted soil from
the excavation bottom and sidewalls to provide some remediation of impacted soil before the
location becomes inaccessible by a new Caltrans roadway. WP2 was endorsed by a Professional
Civil Engineer, William J. Vanderwall.
The EHD approves WP1 as proposed. The EHD also approves WP2, but the amount of
soil excavated shall not exceed the upper proposed limit of 125 cubic yards and clean soil
shall not be excavated except to gain access to impacted soil or to maintain excavation
stability and safety. At no time shall any workers enter the excavation.
