08 May 2014
AGE Project No. 14-2997
side wall of the former UST excavation and transported for disposal. Soil will be
excavated to a maximum depth of 20 feet below surface grade (bsg).
The total volume anticipated for removal and disposal is estimated to be 150 tons
(approximately 100 cubic yards).
During excavation activities, excavated soil will be screened for volatile organic
compounds using an organic vapor monitor (OVM). Excavated soil that appears visibly
stained or has a petroleum hydrocarbon odor will be considered impacted.
2.3. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
A total of 10 soil samples will be collected from the excavation and soil stockpile and
will be submitted for laboratory analysis. Following State of California Regional Water
Quality Board, Tri-Regional Board recommendations, soil samples will be collected from
the base and each side wall of the "new" excavation at a minimum interval of every 20
linear feet. Soil samples will be collected from the base of the excavation at a minimum
of one sample for every 400 square feet of excavation area. Field procedures for
collection of soil samples are presented in Section 3.2.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a California Department of Public Health
(CDPH)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• TPH-diesel by EPA Method 8015 Modified;
• BTEX and Naphthalene by EPA Method 826013; and
• Fuel oxygenates including methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-butyl alcohol
(TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary-
amyl methyl ether (TAME) by EPA Method 8260 Modified.
Laboratory reports for soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation
will be presented in a report with findings and recommendations.
2.4. REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of field work and receipt of final laboratory analysis, a report will be
prepared presenting the findings of the soil removal activities. The report will include a
description of the work performed and the results of the sampling and analysis.
Conclusions and applicable recommendations will be included in the report. The report
will be in a format acceptable to the SJCEHD and CVRWQCB, and will be reviewed
and signed by a California Professional Geologist.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc.
