Selection for laboratory analysis was based upon field evidence of contamination (PID readmgs,
,. discoloration, odors) and site stratigraphic changes. Two consecutive samples were collected
' to document the vertical extent of contamination within a boring. Analytical methods, sample
containers, holding times, and means of preservation are listed in WaterWork's QA/QC Plan
(Appendix IV)
Subsequent to well installation, water samples were collected from the monitoring well after
' purging a minimum of four well volumes. A well volume is defined as the amount of
groundwater in the well casing and sandpack in the annular space surrounding the casing
Stabilization of EC, pH, and temperature were checked after purging and before and after
sample collection to ensure samples collected were representative of formation water. Water
sample collection and preservation was performed in accordance with WaterWork's QA/QC
Groundwater Sampling Protocol (Appendix IV) The samples were analyzed for BTEX and
' TPHG by Applied Analytical Laboratory.
IP4.0 RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION
4.1 Soils
' Subsurface soil samples collected on January 15 and 16, 1991, were submitted to Applied
Analytical and analyzed for BTEX and TPHG. Laboratory results for Monitoring Well 1 (MW-
1) indicated non-detectable levels for BTEX and TPHG at 66 and 71 feet below grade
Laboratory analyses for Angle Soil.Boring 1 (ASB-1) reported levels below one part per million
' (ppm) for BTEX at 51.5 longitudinal feet Laboratory results reported levels below one ppm
for BTEX for the 26 0 foot interval in Angle Boring 2 (ASB-2) Benzene was non-detectable
at the 3 1.0 foot interval in ASB-2. However, elevated levels of toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes
and TPHG were detected Soil Boring 3 (SB-3) indicated less than one ppm for the toluene,
' ethylbenzene, and xylenes and non-detection for benzene at 21.0 feet below grade. At 26 0 feet
and 45.5 below grade, Soil Boring 3 contained less than one ppm xylenes and non-detectable
' levels of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and TPHG, with the exception of 1.2 ppm toluene at
45.5 feet.
' BU8R122 NK 5
