WaterWork
Health and Safety Plan
Underground Tank Investigation
' INTRODUCTION
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
' The Health and Safety Plan, for underground tank investigations,
Provides for the protection of on-site personnel and the
surrounding community during site characterization activities.
' The requirements, specifications and procedures presented with
this plan will apply to all personnel on-site, including
employees, sub--contractors, site visitors and regulatory agency
' personnel.
KEY PERSONNEL
WaterWork ' s Safety Coordinator/Project/ roject Manager will provide
training to site
personnel in the use of safety and personal
protection equipment and will manage the on-site monitoring
Program. The Safety Coordinator/Project Manager will have the
authority to deny access to any individual without the proper
' training or protective equipment required for the site conditions
or those individuals disregarding site safety procedures. All
site personnel will be under the direction of the Safety
Coordinator/Project Manager.
HAZARD ANALYSIS
Thero ert
P P y previously operated a gasoline and/or diesel fuel
distribution facility. Historic data and evaluation of
' subsurface indicate the presence or potential presence of
hydrocarbon fuel contamination.
The activities addressed by this safety plan include surface and
' subsurface soil and groundwater sample collection. Although
exposure at hazardous levels are unlikely, these activities
present the potential for exposure to toxic materials through
both skin contact and inhalation. The subsurface sampling may
also pose a fire and explosion hazard from gases and vapors
trapped beneath the ground surface.
