MMMIA
Working To Restore Nature
analyses of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg), total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd), ethylene dibromide, and total
lead as appropriate. Analytical results indicated that no significant residual hydrocarbons were
detected from beneath the tanks, dispenser, or product.lines, with the exception of an apparent
leak during the removal of product lines near one of the tanks. The soil impacted as a result
of the leak was apparently removed at the time of the spill. Due to questionable delivery times
of samples to the laboratory, confirmation samples were collected by Epigene International on
March 21, 1994. Results of the March 21, 1994 samples indicated a minor release of gasoline
hydrocarbons may have occurred in fill material south of the sidewalk along the former product
lines. Analytical results of soil samples collected by Epigene International are summarized in
Table 3 and Laboratory Data Sheets are included in Appendix H. Sample locations reported by
Epigene International are included on Figure 3.
3.3 Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling
Five rounds of groundwater sampling have been conducted at the site since October 1989.
No petroleum hydrocarbon constituents have been detected above method detection limits at any
time during the groundwater sampling program. The historical analytical results of groundwater
samples collected from well MW 1 are summarized in Table 2. Purge logs, analytical reports.
and chain of custody documentation for the most recent sampling of the well (March 17, 1994),
are included in Appendix III.
4.0 EXISTING CONDITIONS
4_1 Soil
Soils beneath the site are fine grained, consisting of clays and silts with some silty sand.
Residual soil contamination remains beneath the facility building and sidewalk. Analytical data
indicates residual impacted soils occupy a lateral semi-circular configuration with an estimated
maximum radius of approximately 12 to 14 feet from the northern extent of the former
excavation. The estimated lateral extent of residual soil impaction is shown on Figures 4
OW0149%EPORTSICR-0694.FNL 5
