Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: Site: Code 1178, City of Stockton'- Police Facility, 22 East Market Street,
Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Meays:
. This letter report has been prepared on behalf of the City of Stockton (City) to summarize site
activities during the third quarter of.1992 at.the above referenced site (Figure 1).- Site activities
included excavation of hydrocarbon impacted soils near the vapor recovery and product lines,
repair of the product line, soil pile characterization and confirmation sampling, and groundwater
monitoring/sampling of the site monitoring well (MW 1).
BACKGROUND
The subject property is occupied by a City of Stockton police station which accommodates three
underground fuel storage tanks.
During precision testing-at the facility (May 1988), leakage was detected from the product line
of a 10,000 gallon unleaded tank. Elevated .levels of gasoline hydrocarbons were recorded in
two of four soil samples (#2 and #3) collectedJune 9, 1988 from a trench located adjacent to
the product lines (Figure 2): Total petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations'ranging from non-
detectable to 800 ppm were detected in the samples (Table 1).. A small.hole was found in the
unleaded product line in the area of.highest contamination.. Individual testing of the tanks at this
site had indicated that they were mathematically tight. It is our understanding that the unleaded
product line was repaired and the tanks were certified tight again upon retesting. Based upon
QRTLY RPT\QR090292.FNL
