1 <br /> Kennedy/Jenks Consultants <br /> ' 1 INTRODUCTION <br /> This report describes the methods and results for a subsurface investigation conducted by <br /> Kennedy/Jenks Consultants (Kennedy/Jenks) on 26 September 1996 for Stockton <br /> ' Newspapers, Inc (Stockton Newspapers) at the property located at 530 East Market Street <br /> in Stockton, California (the Site) <br /> 1 1 Purpose and Scope <br /> The purpose of the Kennedy/Jenks investigation was to evaluate if shallow soils in the <br /> ' immediate vicinity of a 10,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tank (UST) have been <br /> impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons The scope of work was performed in accordance <br /> with the Kennedy/Jenks' 9 September 1996 document entitled Work Plan for Subsurface <br /> Investigation, Property Located at 530 East Market Street, Stockton, Cahfomia (Work <br /> ' Plan) The Work Plan was submitted to, and approved by the San Joaquin Public Health <br /> Services Environmental Health Division (the Agency) prior to the initiation of field activities <br /> The scope of work included <br /> • Conducting a geophysical survey in the area of the UST to identify the configuration <br /> ' of the UST and associated piping and underground utilities <br /> • Drilling and collecting soil samples from two sod borings (PB-1 and P13-2) adjacent <br /> to the UST <br /> The field investigation, analytical results conclusions and recommendations are <br /> 9 Y , , <br /> summarized in subsequent sections of this report <br /> ' 12 Background <br /> In 1989, Stockton Newspapers replaced an existing gasoline underground storage tank <br /> (UST) with a 10,000-gallon gasoline UST The size of the UST removed in 1989 is not <br /> known Stockton Newspapers requested that Kennedy/Jenks dnll two borings in the <br /> 1 immediate vicinity of the existing UST to evaluate if soils have been impacted by petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons The location of these areas are presented on Figure 1 <br /> ' 2 FIELD INVESTIGATION <br /> The field investigation included the following activities <br /> 21 Prefield Activities <br /> Prior to drilling, Underground Services Alert (USA) was contacted by Kennedy/Jenks to <br /> ' locate the buried utilities present in the immediate vicinity of the borngs <br /> Kennedy/Jenks obtained the necessary drilling permits from the Agency prior to starting the <br /> field act,vities A copy of the drilling permit and other associated paperwork is presented in <br /> Appendix A <br /> i yab18 MG070 011phase iMeAdoc 1 <br />
