I'FerexualINC.
2.7 Groundwater Sampling and Analytical Results
Each of the four boreholes was extended approximately five feet into groundwater and a
groundwater grab sample was collected through the center of the drilling rod. Samples were
decanted into in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-approved containers and submitted to
McCampbell Analytical Laboratories for analysis of TPH-G, TPH-D, BTEX, oil and grease, and
LUFT metals. Analytical results from the groundwater grab samples collected from boreholes
BH-1 and BH-2 reported concentrations of TPH-D at 250 micrograms per liter (µg/L) and 76
µg/L, respectively. Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in grab groundwater samples
from boreholes BH-3 and 131-1-4. Concentrations of TPH-G, BTEX, and oil and grease were not
detected in groundwater grab samples collected from the four boreholes. Trace concentrations of
dissolved metals were reported in groundwater results. The detected metal concentrations are
below DHS MCLS for drinking water. The analytical results for the groundwater samples are
summarized in Table 1, and a complete copy of the laboratory analytical results and project
chain-of-custody documents are included in Appendix E.
3.0 CONCLUSIONS
The results of the soil sampling conducted during Versar's investigation conducted on
May 16, 1997, indicate the groundwater down gradient of the former automobile repair facility
contains low concentrations of diesel-range petroleum hydrocarbons and metals. Metals detected
in the groundwater at the Site are below the MCLS for drinking water. The absence of
constituents of concern in boreholes BH-3 and BH-4 suggests that the low hydrocarbon
concentrations are of limited extent in the Site area. Metal concentrations in the soil samples are
consistent with the USGS's published background levels for the area.
4.0 REFERENCES
State of California, Department of Water Resources Quality Assurance Technical Document 3.
Compilation of Federal and State Drinking Water Standards and Criteria.
