r-� <br /> INTRODUCTION # <br /> I Production Operators, Inc (POI) has prepared this report to present the results <br /> t _ <br /> of a field sampling event conducted on February 27, 1997 at the former K-3 <br /> - and K-4 gas compressor area of Pacific Gas and Electric's (PG&E) McDonald <br /> Island Gas Storage Facility The purpose of the investigation was to <br /> determine the vertical extent of chemical impact to soil and determine if <br /> ground water has been impacted due to POI'S operation of the K-3 and K-4 gas 1 <br /> compressors The following sections provide a summary of historic <br /> � <br /> �+ operations, a summary of previous soil investigations and remediation, and <br /> the results of the current soil and ground water investigation ' <br /> SITE BACKGROUND <br /> POI operated the K-3 and K-4 gas compressors at the McDonald Island Facility, � <br /> located near Stockton, California, for approximately eight years Figure 1 <br /> shows the location of the McDonald Island Facility Over the eight years of <br /> operation, various oils, antifreeze, and solvents were used for the operation c <br /> 1 <br /> and maintenance of the compressors These materials were stored in a <br /> hazardous material storage area located in the northeastern corner of the K-3 <br /> and K-4 compressor area Specific materials stored in the hazardous materials <br /> storage areas were documented and presented in a December, 1996, report y <br /> generated by PG&E's Technical and Ecological Services (TES) Figure 2 shows <br /> the location of the former gas compressors and the former hazardous - <br /> r� � <br /> materials storage area <br /> Preva Inverzt1gations <br /> The February 1997 workplan prepared by POI for the current investigation <br /> presented an in-depth summary of previous investigations at the former K-3 <br />
