f r <br /> Section 1 <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> This report presents the results of a subsurface soil investigation at PG&E's McDonald Island Gas <br /> Storage Facility near Stockton, California("the McDonald Island facility") The location of the <br /> ' McDonald Island facility is shown on Figure 1 Productions Operators Inc (POI)operated two gas <br /> compressors at the McDonald Island facility, and this report presents the results of soil testing completed <br /> ' following their removal This report was prepared by PG&E's Technological and Ecological Services <br /> (TES) in San Ramon, California <br /> The purpose of this investigation was to determine if shallow soil had been impacted by POI'S <br /> compressor operations Results of this investigation will be used by POI to formulate a plan to further <br /> delineate the extent of contamination and to work with local oversight agencies to remediate as needed to <br /> ' obtain approval for"no further action " The remainder of this report presents background regarding the <br /> site, the results-of testing,and the methods used during the soil investigation <br /> SITE BACKGROUND <br /> A site plan of POI's compressor operating area is shown on Figure 2 Two gas compressors, designated <br /> K3 and K4,were used to compress natural gas for infection and storage in subsurface reservoirs The <br /> Cm <br /> mctopressors were operated for approximately eight years and were removed during September and <br /> Ober 1996 because they were no longer needed The compressors resided within secondary <br /> containment structures which appeared to be in good condition prior to removal The containment <br /> ' structures beneath the compressors,and subsurface pipes which serviced the compressors, also were <br /> removed The structural concrete pads beneath the compressors were left in place A hazardous <br /> materials storage area with a secondary containment was located in the northeastern corner of the <br /> compressor yard In this area,POI stored bulk quantities of oils, antifreeze, degreasers, and solvents <br /> POI provided the Material Safety Data Sheets(MSDS)for these materials which are presented in <br /> Appendix A <br /> 1 <br /> 96175612774MDIks173w i-1 <br />
