MCHENRY; ESCALON
SUBSURFACE ENVIRONMENTAL INVESTIGATION
Please be advised that this office has reviewed the above referenced
work plan. We have found the plan to be adequate provided the
following considerations are addressed.
1: The suggested sampling intervals within the soil borings is
satisfactory; however, the samples obtained by utilizing field
techniques should also be verified with a bottom-of-boring soil sample
submitted for laboratory analysis.
2: Pursuant to telephone communication with ETS personnel
December 30, 1988, the suggested slant boring adjacent to the waste oil
tank will require additional details. A minimum of two soil samples is
required for each angle boring performed per tank. A cross-sectional
diagram illustrating the angle of the slant boring and the placement of
the two soil sampling points will be necessary prior to the issuance of
the drilling permit. In order t.o obtain maximum sampling points at
both ends of tanks, we recommend the slant boring be performed parallel
to the tank, and the first soil sample be collected at the tank bottom
interface with native soil and the second sample be collected at the
termination of the boring which is aligned with the opposite end of the
tank. If this recommendation cannot be achieved at this site, then
illustrate the best possible angle and sampling points.
3: Review of our files indicates the waste oil tank has not
previously been registered nor have the appropriate tank fees been
applied to this tank. Enclosed is a Fee Worksheet and a Closure Plan
informational packet. Please complete the Closure Plan information and
submit all the required fees at the time of submittal for the permanent
closure of the waste oil tank.
These issues should be addressed in a revised sampling plan which must
be submitted to this office for approval prior to initiating the work
plan.
It should be noted that additional sampling may be necessary should the
results of the sampling effort not adequately define the extent of
Administration Clinical Services Environmental Health Public Health Nursing
468-3400 468-3830 468-3420 468-3860
Air Pollution Community Services Laboratory WIC
468-3470 468-3820 468-3460 468-3280
AIDS Information 468-3820
