This addendum report presents the
laboratory data as required by EHD.
EHD suggested that one of -the samples collected in May be
reanalyzed, using the California Waste Extraction Test (WET) .
Unfortunately, laboratories typically preserve the samples up to
about three months after they are first submitted, and the May
samples had already been disposed of by the time EHD's request was
received. Therefore, a replacement sample was collected from one of
the barrels of contaminated auger returns that are presently stored
on site. Several barrels were opened and examined, and an attempt
was made to collect as highly contaminated a sample as possible.
This sample was hand-packed into a clean brass tube, capped, taped,
and labeled, and stored on ice pending transmittal to WEST
Labora,.:ories in Davis, CA.
The sample was analyzed for purgeabie petroleum hydrocarbons in the
diesel and oil and grease range in order to obtain baseline data on
total contamination in the sample. The sample was then analyzed
using the WET method to determine what percentage of total
contamination was l.:achable. The chain of custody form and
laboratory report are attached.
The laboratory report indicates that total soil contamination in
this sample is 1,350 mg/kg (ppm) • This is roughly equivalent to
samples of native soil at depths of 10- 15 feet around tho margins
of the underground vault and 20-30 feet beneath the vault. No
contamina etected using the WET method at the detection
-- -------- -lunit-o i00__myJkgindicating_that the contamination .is bound up
and not po en iaM_ leachable.
Envircrmental Services•Hy drogeology•Geotechnical Services
