(ESE), is pleased to submit this work plan for a supplemental
environmental assessment of the subject site in the City of Stockton, San Joaquin County,
California (Figure 1). It addresses investigation methods, techniques, soil and groundwater
sampling, and locations of exploratory borings and sample points.
BACKGROUND
A Phase I environmental supplement of the subject site, issued by ESE on December 28, 1992,
identified areas of potential concern which would warrant a supplemental investigation. Two
automobile wrecking yards are located adjacent to the site. Surface spills of motor oil and fuels are
common occurrences at this type of facility.
The site is comprised of four parcels, (Figure 2) one of which is occupied by a trucking facility
with an underground diesel fuel storage tank. There is a potential for fuel to have leaked from the
tank or associated piping,as well as for spills of waste oil or fuels at the surface.
Three of the parcels are vacant and have a history of agricultural use. Chlorinated pesticides may
have been used on these parcels, and some pesticide residue may persist in the soil.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The purpose of this reconnaissance-level investigation is to determine whether the soil or
groundwater below the site may have been impacted by past use, storage,or handling of hazardous
materials on or around the site vicinity. ESE proposes to drill exploratory borings along the
property boundaries between the site and the two auto wrecking yards, and on the two sides of the
underground diesel storage tank at the Thorsen Trucking yard. Approximate boring locations are
shown on Figure 3. Soil samples collected during the drilling operations will be analyzed at a
state-certified laboratory for the presence of selected contaminants. Three groundwater samples
will also be collected from the shallow aquifer underlying the site with a HydroPunchTM sampling
device. The water samples will be properly preserved for laboratory analysis.
