KL E/NFEL OER
Blight Pe ple Right Solutions.
Stainless steel bailers, ball valves and other down-hole re-useable equipment are
decontaminated prior to use at each sampling location by stream cleaning or scrubbing
in a non-phosphate detergent wash followed by a distilled water rinse.
2.4 Sample Handling
After labeling, the sample is immediately stored in an iced cooler for transport to
Kleinfelder's office sample control or to the analytical laboratory. A Kleinfelder chain-of-
custody form accompanies the cooler. The chain-of-custody form includes Kleinfelder's
name, address and telephone number, the employee number of the individual who
performed the sampling, the sample numbers, the date and time the samples were
collected, the number of containers each sample occupies, the sample matrix (soil or
water), and the analyses for which the samples are being submitted, if any. The chain-
of-custody form is signed by each person who handles the samples, including all
Kleinfelder employees and the receiving employee of office sample control or the
analytical laboratory when the samples are delivered.
2.5 Decontamination of Equipment
To reduce the potential for cross-contamination, core barrels and associated down-hole
equipment are steam cleaned prior to advancing each probe. In addition, sampling
equipment is cleaned with a non-phosphate detergent wash and rinsed with distilled
water prior to collecting each soil or groundwater sample.
2.6 Geoprobe Closure
Upon completion of sampling, the boreholes are closed by backfilling the borings with a
neat cement grout or bentonite chips or powder.
Probe cuttings and water not retained for additional analyses are placed in plastic bags,
55-gallon drums, or spread around the boring, depending upon site specific conditions.
It is typically the Site owner's responsibility to dispose of cuttings and water left
contained on the Site. Kleinfelder can coordinate disposal of soil and water after
analytical results are available.
112884.1/STO10R366R Page iii of iii October 1, 2010
Copyright 2010 Kleinfelder Revision 1, dated November 22,2010
