The draft Work Plan will describe the proposed actions LA&S will undertake at the subject site to excavate and onsite remediate petroleum contaminated soils discover during the removal of two (2) USTs in December 2004, and to investigate and ascertain whether groundwater in the vicinity of the former UST locations has been impacted by the petroleum contaminates found in the soil. BACKGROUND The subject site is currently owned by Dutra Farms Inc. The land has been in continuous cultivation for over fifty years. Two 1,000-gallon steel USTs were installed on the property approximately twenty years ago. One contained diesel fuel and one contained gasoline. The USTs were located at opposite ends of an equipment storage building. The USTs fell into disuse i"' at some point in the last five years. The property owner decided to have the USTs removed and LA&S was hired to provide environmental consulting and UST removal services. Iwo Appropriate UST removal permits were obtained from the City of Manteca Fire Department and - the San Joaguin Environmental Health Department. The USTs were removed on December 21, 6" 2004. Inspector Raymond J. Von Flue from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department and Inspector Randy Sutton from the City of Manteca Fire Department were present during the UST removal and subsequent soil sampling event. Lo Eight (8) soil samples were obtained at locations selected by Inspector Von Flue. The soil samples were obtained by driving clean brass sampling tubes into freshly excavated soil until no 1.0 headspace remained in the tubes. The tubes were then sealed with Teflon tape and plastic end caps. The tubes were labeled and placed in plastic zip-lock bags and placed on crushed ice in an ' ice chest. The samples were recorded onto a Chain-of-Custody. A courier from STL Ld Laboratories (a State Certified Environmental Testing Lab) came to the site and picked up the ice chest and Chain-of Custody.
