WORK PLAN FOR ADDITIONAL SUBSURFACE ASSESSMENT <br /> at <br /> Former Unocal Station No. 0187 <br /> 437 East Miner Avenue <br /> Stockton, California <br /> Report No. 240042.05 <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> At the request of Unocal Corporation (Unocal), Gettler-Ryan.Inc. (GR) has prepared this Work Plan for <br /> additional subsurface assessment in response to a September 13, 1999, letter from the San Joaquin County <br /> Public Health Services(SJCPHS). The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the horizontal and vertical <br /> distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil and groundwater downgradient of the subject site. The <br /> proposed scope of work includes: obtaining the required monitoring well permit and access agreement; <br /> installing four groundwater monitoring wells; collecting soil samples from the borings; developing and <br /> sampling the groundwater monitoring wells;analyzing the soil and groundwater samples; and preparing a <br /> report presenting the findings of the investigation. <br /> The scope of work described in this Work Plan is intended to comply with the State of California Water <br /> Resources Control Board's Leaking Underground Fuel Tanks(LUFI)Manual and California Underground <br /> Storage Tank Regulations, 1994, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board (CRWQCB) <br /> Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations for Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation of Underground <br /> Tank Sites. <br /> SITE DESCRIPTION <br /> The subject site is a vacant lot situated on the northwest corner of East Miner Avenue and California Street <br /> in the city of Stockton,California,as shown on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1). The site is situated in an urban <br /> area of retail shops and hotels. Topography in the site vicinity is flat lying,at an elevation of approximately <br /> 15 feet above mean sea level (MSL). Surface water in the vicinity of the site consist of McLeod Lake and <br /> the Stockton Deep Water Channel, situated approximately one-half mile to the west. <br /> The site was an operating Unocal service station from 1922 until 1992. Most recently the station consisted <br /> of three-bay station building,three product dispenser islands(D-1 through D-3),and two gasoline and one <br /> 240042.05 <br />
