' ARCADIS GE RAG HTY&M I LLER
i
' 5.6 QUARTERLY GROUNDWATER MONITORING RESULTS
' The First Quarter 1999 Groundwater Momtorung and Sampling Report at the former
' UNOCAL Service Station #0187 is attached in Appendix D The report documents the
development and quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling events performed by Gettler-
' Ryan, Inc (G R) On February 1, 1999, field personnel developed three wells (NP-2-22, NP-
2-60, and NP-2-116) On February 5, 1999, field personnel monitored sixteen wells and
' sampled fifteen wells (U-1 through U-9, NP-1-22, NP-1-65, NP-1-111, NP-2-22, NP-2-60,
NP-2-116) at the Site
Static groundwater levels were me4sured and all wells were checked for the presence
' of separate-phase hydrocarbons Separate-phase hydrocarbons were not present in the wells
Static water level data and groundwater elevations are summarized in Table 1 of Appendix D
A potentiometnc map is included as Figure I of Appendix D
The direction of shallow groundwater flow at the Site is interpreted to be generally to
' the east northeast under a gradient of 004 to 009 ft/ft A shallow groundwater gradient,
independently determined by calculation of the head and distance difference between NP-1-22
' and NP-2-22,was consistent, at 0033 ft/ft, with the groundwater gradient calculated from the
other shallow two-inch morutoring wells Direction of flow is from NP-1-22 to NP-2-22 The
' gradient calculated for the mid-level permeable zone beneath the Site between NP-1-65 and
NP-2-60 was 0034 ft/ft, with the gradient being from NP-1-65 to NP-2-60 The gradient
' calculated for the deep-gradient permeable zone beneath the Site between NP-1-111 and NP-
2-116 was 0021 ft/ft,with the gradient being from NP-1-i 11 to NP-2-116
Vertical gradient was calculated at the Site using water elevations from the monitoring
well nests at NP-1 and NP-2 Based on the water level elevations recorded on February 5,
1999 by Gettler-Ryan, the gradient between NP-1-22 and NP-1-65 is 003 ft/ft downward, and
28
