• i
Former Unocal Station No 0187
February 14, 1995
GSI proposes to perform the following specific tasks.
Task 1. Limited Phase I Site Assessment
Perform a limited Phase I environmental investigation of the properties
immediately upgradient of the subject site This investigation may include
review of State and SJCEHD lists for sites in the vicinity that have known or
suspected hydrocarbon contamination Available aerial photographs will also be
examined to assess past usages of the upgradlent sites
Task 2. Pre-Field Activities
Obtain the necessary soil boring permits from the SJCEHD and the SPWD
Notify Underground Service Alert (USA) a minimum of 48 hours prior to
drilling
Task 3. Field Activities
3 1 Sol] Bonnlrs
Drill three onsite exploratory soil borings to groundwater (approximately 45 feet
bgs) The soil borings (U-N, U-O, and U-P) will be drilled with six- or
eight-inch-diameter hollow-stem augers at the locations shown on Figure 2 A
GSI geologist will monitor the drilling activities and prepare a log of each
boring Upon completion of drilling, the borings will be backfilled to ground
surface with neat cement The neat cement will be placed with a tremie pipe per
SJCEHD regulations
Soil samples for description and possible chemical analysis will be obtained from
the borings at five-foot intervals, as a minimum Soil samples will be collected
with a split-spoon sampler fitted with clean brass or stainless steel sample rings.
Sample handling procedures are described in Appendix A Although the actual
number of samples submitted for chemical analysis will depend on site conditions
and field screening data, we anticipate three samples from each boring will be
submitted for chemical analysis as described in Task 3 6
Drill cuttings will be stockpiled at the site pending receipt of chemical analytical
data The drill cuttings will be stockpiled on and covered with plastic sheeting
pending disposal Four soil samples of the drill cuttings will be collected as
described in Appendix A These samples will be submitted to the laboratory for
compositing into one sample, and then analyzed as described in Task 3 6 Steam
482704-1 5
GeoStrategies Inco
