Environmental
Ms.Margaret Lagorio
ESAScience March 9,2005
Associates Page 3.
Disposal of Soil Cuttings and Monitoring Well Materials
Over-drilling the monitoring well borings and removing the well construction materials will generate waste
soil and debris. These materials will be removed from the site by Precision and appropriately disposed of
through their waste recycling program. However,ESA must demonstrate to Precision that the soil and well
materials are not hazardous.
Schedule
ESA will complete the necessary SJCEHD well destruction permit and schedule the drillers within the week
following approval of this work plan. As soon as the drillers are scheduled,ESA will notify the SJCEHD to
schedule grout inspection, as required. According to UOP personnel, it is acceptable to schedule this work
during the week while school is in session provided that ESA implement adequate traffic and pedestrian
safety precautions. The field work is expected to require one full day. ESA will prepare and submit to
SJCEHD, a letter documenting the well destruction activities, which will includes photographs of each well
location.
Health and Safety
Air, water, and soil contamination in the soil cuttings and well materials is not expected at this job site.
Work will be completed in level D personal protective equipment, which includes hardhats, boots, eye and
ear protection when necessary, and high-visibility vests. Because this is a routine operation,ESA does not
expect that extraordinary safety provisions will be required. However,ESA will provide, when and where
appropriate, traffic safety including barricades, cones, "slow"signs, high visibility vests, and pedestrian
controls. Pedestrians will not be allowed to enter the work zone, which will be clearly marked, when
necessary,by yellow tape. Standard health and safety rules will apply to the site, which will include no
smoking in the work zone, the use of hard hats during work periods, appropriate first aid kits and fire
extinguishers, and attention to traffic and pedestrians. ESA will conduct a site safety meeting prior to
commencing work to ensure all parties are aware of the safety concerns. j
As always, we appreciate your attention to this project and your assistance with-this work plan. If you.have
other questions or data;,ceds to complete the closure documentation, please do not hesitate to call me at
(415) 896-5900.
Sincer
ter B.
