SUBSURFACE SOIL AND GROUNDWATER <br /> ASSESSMENT REPORT <br /> UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC <br /> 1081 W MENDOCINO AVENUE <br /> STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA <br /> ' Assessor's Parcel Number: 113-140-02 <br /> County of San Joaquin Site Code: R0732 <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> Environmental Science Associates (ESA) has prepared this report to present findings of our <br /> ' subsurface soil and groundwater assessment at 1081 W Mendocino Avenue in Stockton, <br /> California(referred to herein as the"site")(Figure 1) The purpose of the assessment was to <br /> further investigate concentrations of methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE)detected at a former <br /> ' underground storage tank(UST) location Assessment activities included dnllmg and sampling <br /> five exploratory soil borings and obtaining in-situ groundwater samples In addition, a well <br /> search was performed to identify any public water supply wells in the site vicinity <br /> This report is subdivided into four sections The Project Background section describes previous <br /> soil assessment activities on the site and a summary of the site history The Investigation and <br /> Findings section describes the results of our assessment and the findings used to develop our <br /> conclusions The Conclusions and Recommendations section discusses our conclusions based on <br /> the findings and presents our recommendations The Subsurface Soil and Groundwater Sampling <br /> ' Methodology section describes methodologies and procedures used in our assessment Table 4 <br /> summarizes the laboratory results of soil and groundwater sample analyses Soil boring logs and <br /> ' copies of laboratory reports are located in Attachment A and B, respectively <br /> PROJECT BACKGROUND <br /> ' The site is the former location of the University of the Pacific (UOP) Physical Plant on the north <br /> side of Mendocino Avenue within the UOP campus The UOP moved its main campus to its <br /> ' present location in Stockton in approximately 1924 The former Physical Plant building, Central <br /> Receiving Building, and Electric Shop located south, southeast and southwest of the site are <br /> being remodeled for use as classroom buildings UOP recently removed a Custodial Warehouse <br /> ' and a shed formerly located to the east of the site As part of current renovations and construction <br /> of new facilities,UOP removed a 4,400 gallon unleaded gasoline UST on April 7, 2000, under <br /> permits issued by San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (#022179)and the City of <br /> ' Stockton Fire Department(#00-91) Excavated soil from the tank pit (including pea gravel and <br /> soil) was used as backfill The former UST location is now beneath a newly paved staff and <br /> student parking lot(Figure 2) <br /> ' Subsurface Soil and Groundwater Assessment ESA/200252 <br /> 1081 W Mendocino Avenue,Stockton California 1 August 25 2000 <br />
